The story
For this informÂatÂive new one-off, film writer Ian Nathan focuses on the first 60 years of British film, from the invenÂtion of cinema and the transÂition from stage to screen, to the emerÂgence of the stuÂdios and the first popÂuÂlar idols. Nathan takes us through the work of leadÂing BritÂish film-makers â a talÂent pool that, like HolÂlyÂwoodâs, benefited from the influx of refugees fleeÂing Europe â includÂing Alfred HitchÂcock, PowÂell and PressÂburÂger, and many more besides.
